OK, this thread I want to dedicate to the similarities between True Lies and CR. I have a feeling TL actually served as the template in CR in more ways than one, be it humanising the main lead character, or similar action sequences.

So far, I spotted at least two blatant similarities between the movies :

- The toilet killing action scene

(here's a shot of True Lies, very similar to the gunbarrel scene)

- The crane scene (don't tell me that scene with Foucan, hanging on heights, is not similar to True Lies Climax)

I think the airport scene will also have strong similarities to True Lies last act (what, with jets flying, explosions and all)

This is not a thread to denigrate CR, it's about how much the filmmakers lifted inspiration from True Lies, who remains to my eyes way superior to any Brosnan 007 movie and remains the best 007 flick since LTK, even if it doesn't star 007.

True Lies (which already was a remake of a french movie) had more than just similarities with Bond films. Some scenes were completely taken from existing bond films (see "Goldfinger", "for your eyes only", "the living daylights" and some others). I like this film, but Cameron just re-used Bond material. I'm sure CR will be much more creative and will not use "old recipes" and copy other action movies.

Aside from both having a fight in a public toilet, I can't see any similarities. Even then I don't think Casino Royale will be as 'trigger happy' as True Lies.

That's really interesting, that flux of influences. Of course True Lies ripped a lot from 007 flicks, but with a twist (They even took the Tango scene from NSNA !). I'm not saying CR will be a carbon copy, but that TL was a huge influence on the movie, and that the similarities are not mere coincidence. I mean, that shot of Arnold firing in the toilets looks just like the gunbarrel shot (even the walls have the same lining !), It cannot be a random thing.

Aside from the fact that both films have a sequence in a restroom, there is no comparisons at all.

It's not similar at all.

I know loads of films with toilets in them and finales up high places. The crane fight in CR is actually just a brief moment in a large chase and later gunfight which is nothing like True Lies..plus it isn't the finale, the climax of Casino Royale is superb from what i have heard and absolutely nothing like True Lies.

Funny the threader should liken CR to TL as that is the exact film I thought of when seeing the footage some weeks ago.

No one is gonna' remember most of the action sequences from True Lies after they see CR.

agreed, no matter how good it is True lies will be forgotten after CR is released

I sincerely hope so... but then you can't deny the fact that since 1989, there have been no movie true to the 007 spirit except True Lies !
