How will this set back production of Bond 22?

I'm wondering the same thing. :)

It wouldn't.

Even if there is any indication of the 007 stage being used, or any Pinewood stages being used, if they could get the stage up in 3 months for AVTAK in 84', basically months before they were due to lense, then if the Bond 22 production is to start shooting in May next year, for six months' shooting, they have, max, a year and a half to get a stage up.

Dead easy.

It's been almost 12 hours since I started this topic and news of the fire broke out, can only wonder how long it will take for further details (such as the cause) and reaction from EON to come out.

On the subject of the schedule for BOND 22, has there been any mention of whether they will be filming predominantly in Prague again? If the producers were still considering whether they may return Pinewood, I suppose this may make their decision for them.

A very sad turn of events.

And as a last resort, they could always rearrange shooting schedules such that they would be shooting on location while the studio is being put in working order. Hell, they could completely bypass Pinewood and shoot everything abroad. What's stopping them? I know they run into criticism when they shoot stuff outside of the UK, but surely when one's studio has burned down, one has a pretty persuasive excuse for working abroad. Perhaps they'll move more of the filming to Prague.

BBC radio news just confirmed that filming on Casino Royale has finished, and the blaze is not expected to affect the movie's release date. :)

Anyone else notice that the all the press coverage has said the film is to be released in October rather than November?

When I first saw this on the site, I thought it was a look back at that day in 1984.

You know, that same thought first went through my mind as well. Even the pic of the charred, caved-in stage looked the same as 84.

A colleague and I were discussing this in the newsroom tonight. He said he wondered if the Timothy Dalton Fan Club was responsible. I said, "No, Pierce Brosnan. Not the fan club. Just Pierce Brosnan."

I think they agreed to shoot in a studio on Germany and that they could return to Prague and Pinewood like in Casino Royale for Bond 22, so there won't be a lot a problems to get Bond 22 in time.

Conspiracy theories aside, the Pinewood Board has just confirmed that the stage will be demolished and rebuilt.

Take this with a large pinch of salt (for Bond has weathered worse crises before, such as the last-minute change of location from Vietnam to Thailand on TOMORROW NEVER DIES), but The Sun claims that production of BOND 22 (which the paper says has a start date of August 2007 - first we've heard of it, I think, but it seems believable enough given the May 2008 release date) "will almost certainly be delayed" due to the fire.

There's also a brief mention in The Currant Bun of
Spoiler
Nothing major, that, but a little nugget of info, and something in the film I don't recall being discussed online.

Yes Loomis, the details you mention about the Venice finale have been discussed a few times in the spoiler section - it promises to be a great sight on screen. Chris Corbould described it as one of his biggest ever undertakings in terms of planning as a scene. Perhaps that bit should be marked as a spoiler though, just in case anyone is trying to keep themselves in the dark over the Venice scenes :)

Bad news about BOND 22 if it truly is likely to be delayed. According to latest reports I heard this lunchtime, several glum looking EON executives have travelled to Pinewood today and are holding meetings. I guess details of a delay to BOND 22 would be released over the course of the next week.

I find it highly unlikely that Bond 22 will be delayed becuase of this incident. There have been far major incidents that has led the Bond crew to reschedule around problems. When the stage burned down in 1984 the filming of A View to a Kill was weeks from starting.
I even was watching the DVD documentary on From Russia With Love with my girlfriend this past weekend and was reminded of the fact that Pedro Armend

I was speaking with someone who has had peripheral work on this set and he was of the opinion that the set was being struck with the use of torch cutters or angle grinders.

Perhaps this is what offered the initial part of the fire triangle.

(The Sun is just being its usual sensational self about delays - as above, far worse has been weathered)

There is talk of a welder causing sparks to fly which set fire to some flammable material. From there it ignited some gas canisters and the second version of the 007 stage was no more.Anyway what I think we should all be talking about is will Bond 22 be released in May 2008? Are they going to film mainly overseas (as they did with Casino Royale) or had they planned to film mainly at Pinewood.

Putting it's rich history aside for one second, wasn't the building nothing more than a giant corrugated metal shed with a water tank in it? Surely it won't take them long to rattle another one up....i mean we aren't exactly talking about The Duomo or Notre-Dame here!

Happy to see it will be rebuilt. Have to agree with Marquis, rebuilding is basically a giant shed- not a monumental task.

At least no one was hurt.

Yeah, it's essentially 4 walls and a tank. It took them 4 months to rebuild it last time, but they probably used the same plans since it was only 7 or so years old. They may want to update that now, maybe make it bigger.

On a sidenote someone should edit the building set video on the official site. Make it go backwards and put some fire effects in there. I look forward to that video on the official site :)

There is absolutely no way Bond 22 will be delayed by these events. Anything said to the contrary is purely idiotic speculation (ie. the Sun). There is no way a movie due out in May 2008, which won't begin filming for another 8 months or so is going to be delayed by this. So there is no need to worry about that.

I am just glad nobody was hurt.

I'm convinced the 007 Stage is cursed. I mean, two fires in its lifetime? Maybe there will be another one in 2028, when they're filming the... what, 30th Bond film by that time? :)

If memory serves, Cubby did have a heavy fire insurance clause and I think doubled it after the first fire. Once the fire was known to be covered by the insurance in '84, I had heard/read that Cubby broke out his own checkbook to get it started before receiving the payout from the insurance company. Part of the reason it was renamed for him.

Never confirmed this, but doesn't it sound like the Cubby we all knew?

Happy for two things:

- Nobody hurt.

- CR had already wrapped.

Also, given soundstages today, a new and improved 007 stage could be a very cool thing. Still, broke my heart to wake up to the news yesterday.

Now on the CBn main page...

Eight fire engines tackle the blaze

Cause of fire yet to be confirmed

Not sure where to put this (but move this if needs be), but I suppose it's still just about relevant to CASINO ROYALE. There's a massive fire at Pinewood Studios, and the 007 stage is ablaze. More information here:

Sky News website

Well, at least they are done with filming, for the mean time. Hopefully it will be repaired for Bond 22. I'm sure it will be.
