I'm not a great car-chase fan, even in Bond films. However, if I had to pick one that I really do like it's Tracey and Bond's escape from the ice rink in OHMSS

Don't know if I have an absolute favourite, but I am very fond of the car chase in The Spy Who Loved Me.

To be honest, the one I prefer most of all is the one that not a set piece but just part of an extended scene - that of the one in Octoussy when he's racing to the circus.

All determination, no laughs, lots of near misses - a superb example of what chases should be.

My Top five favourites:

1. TLD - Aston on ice
2. TSLM - chase on land and under water
3. FYEO - Citreon chase
4. DAF - Chase in Las Vegas
5. TND - BMW in car park

I love all these car chases. The chase in TLD is a strong candidate for the best action scene ever done in a Bondfilm (I'm choosing between that one and the ski chase in FYEO at the moment).

You've forgotten a few chases.

There's a second one in Diamonds Are Forever involving the Las Vegas cops chasing the Bond in the Mustang.
Then you have the double-decker bus chase in Live And Let Die.
Next is the Lotus vs. motorcycle/car/helicopter chase in The Spy Who Loved Me.
Then in Octopussy you have the Indian cart chase and later the German police chasing Bond in the stolen car.
A View To A Kill has the fire truck chase.
Licence To Kill has the tanker truck chase.
And finally, GoldenEye has the tank chase.

My favorite would probably be the tanker truck chase in LTK. I also like the Citroen chase in For Your Eyes Only, but I'll still give the nod to the tanker trucks.

Not one of the series' finer moments though.

In no particular order, I'd have to say the Lotus chase in TSWLM, the Aston chase in TLD, and the tank chase in GoldenEye.

No competition - one car chase that kicks all of the previous ones into the bin is the ice chase in Die Another Day. Not only the best in the series but surely must rank with the best, including that amazing one in The Rock!

Thought TSWLM was quite good aswell. Those helicopter bullets flying everywhere was cool, and of course "Bond 77".

QOS for sure. Never has a self-contained story been so quickly and expertly set up at the same time in the canon. Setting, hero, villains, CHASE!!, climax, epilogue, all in just minutes. More than just the chase, it's a fabulous PTS.

As a chase in and of itself, though, I still prefer it because of the breath of fresh air that is the lack of gadgetry. Just expert driving, well-placed bullets, and a little luck. B)

So expert that Bond can't outrun a saloon car in a V12 supercar!

For me, the most exciting, well-edited and driven chases are the 2CV one from FYEO and the BMW car park from Tomorrow Never Dies. The Alfa chase from Octopussy I'm fond of too although it's not really a full blown set-piece. Apart from the truck incident nothing that much happens in the Quantum one.

Where did you see all the straightaways that would have allowed Bond to outrun the Alfa? There were sharp curves every 20 yards.

I don't expect a lot of agreement on that chase, but I've never been head over heels in love with the gadget-laden chases. They're cute the first time or two, but there's little suspense for me after that. I still find myself tensing up in portions of the QOS chase (truck incident, jeep rolling downhill, lockup at end, etc.) and that's not let up much since my first viewing. Just me.

Well, the bit where they get off the road rammed with traffic should have seen Bond just simply put his foot down and outdragged them as that's a straight road, and anyway: the Aston goes around corners much quicker than the Alfa, so the fact that there are corners means nothing. It's practically a racing car, and racing cars don't have any trouble with corners; especially not with tyres that massive. It should still have left the Alfas in its dust no matter how straight the road is.

Which is why the 2CV chase beats it hands down for me. Bond actually driving for his life in a car which shouldn't save him.
