I knew that Eon would skirt round the Leiter issue, is he pre or post LTK? etc etc.
I'm sad to see him go really

And not, I might add, some ersatz Felix, e.g. Jack Wade, Damien Falco, J.W. Pepper, or what have you. Leiter was Bond's opposite number, and his foil. It makes no sense to have passed him over for this long. With CR in the works, it certainly makes no sense to continue doing so.

Well Q wasn't in the novel and Moneypenny played a very small role, pretty much a cameo and didn't have any interaction with Bond. Leiter on the other hand was one of the major characters and its also rumored that there will be an american agent in the film so it would make sense to include Leiter.

But in the leaked list of characters to cast there was an "American CIA officer".

"Impatiently Bond lit a cigarette, pulled his shoulders out of their slouch and slammed the mawkish memories back into their long-closed file. Today he was a grown up, a man with years of dirty, dangerous memories - a spy."

This doesn't mean anything at all. Leiter could be in the film for any number of reasons. The story is not identical.

Somewhat. I just feel that CR is a perfect time to bring the character back to big screen seeing this is a reboot and Leiter made his first apperence in the novel.

I agree. We haven't seen Felix in over a decade, and with it being a reboot and everything, now is the perfect opportunity to bring that character back to the franchise.

"Yes indeed, and I've already got some information for you. But drinks first!"
Bond smiled. It seemed the most enduring element of their friendship throughout the years was their rather adloescent penchant to try and outdrink each other. He would never forget the barhopping they used to do in New York City, or Las Vegas, or in the Bahmas. Despite the fact they came from two countries seperated by a common language, Bond and Leiter understood each other. They were made of the same material. Both were men who had lived on the edge and survived to tell the tale. Leiter was also a man who, despite his handicap, could never be satisfied with retirement or inactivity.
Esmerelda settled down at Bond's feet, claiming him as her territory. Manuela brought in a tray with with three shot glasses, a bottle of Jose' Cuervo Gold tequila, some sliced limes, and a salt shaker. She set the tray on a small coffe table.
"What the Hell?" Bond asked.
"You're in Texas now, James," Leiter said. "You're gonna do shots like the Texans do!"
"Oh for God's sake," Bond muttered, shaking his head.

I'll be greatly disappointed if Leiter is not in this film as well. I think that they finally have the perfect opportunity to bring the character back, and I think that it would be a shame if it were another CIA agent rather than Felix.

I suppose if we can accept that Dench will be M in CR, and not Bernard Lee's replacement, we can buy Bond meeting Leiter for the first time....again.
I certainly hope Leiter will appear, though. No more Wade types, please.
