Possibly but look at this comment from the Stax report. "If Bond burns through his initial ten million stake then it's up to Vesper to decide if he gets more". Now we all no that Vesper is a double so perhaps she will deny him additional funds and Bond will be forced to depend on the yanks to save him.

I can't imagine that they'd pass up a chance to reintroduce Leiter, even if they have to shoe-horn him in. It would be such a wasted opportunity.

Yes, but because there are so many reasons to bring back Leiter, I would expect the producers to end up incorporating him one way or another. It seems like they'd have to go out of their way to keep him out of the film. If they want to bring him back as a reminder of the classic films, it makes sense to include Leiter. If they want to bring him back fully intact, to signify that CR is a new beginning, it makes sense to include Leiter. If they want a sympathetic American character to sweeten the deal for American movie-goers, it makes sense to include Leiter. If they need someone to represent the CIA, considering that the film concerns terrorism, it makes sense to include Leiter. If they simply want to make a faithful adaptation of Fleming's novel, it makes sense to include Leiter.

And not, I might add, some ersatz Felix, e.g. Jack Wade, Damien Falco, J.W. Pepper, or what have you. Leiter was Bond's opposite number, and his foil. It makes no sense to have passed him over for this long. With CR in the works, it certainly makes no sense to continue doing so.

Seeing as we not be seeing Moneypenny or Q in CR i doubt we will see Leiter. The reboot will mean these characters will be probably introduced over the next 2 movies IMO

Well Q wasn't in the novel and Moneypenny played a very small role, pretty much a cameo and didn't have any interaction with Bond. Leiter on the other hand was one of the major characters and its also rumored that there will be an american agent in the film so it would make sense to include Leiter.

This doesn't mean anything at all. Leiter could be in the film for any number of reasons. The story is not identical.

I agree. We haven't seen Felix in over a decade, and with it being a reboot and everything, now is the perfect opportunity to bring that character back to the franchise.

One thing that has bothered me the most about the Bond series (apart from the Blofeld fiasco) is that they always changed the actor for the part of Felix Leiter. Now that a return for CR is possible, I do hope they will try to keep the same actor for as long as possible.

Could the "CIA Agent: be Michael Madsen's character from DAD? Didn't they say he was to have a recurring role? He'd make a fine Leiter wouldn't he.

I understand that EON must update the plot to fit in today's world, but why eliminate a key character to Flemimg's original story? When Leiter slips Bond that fat envelope full of cash and bails him out was to me was one of the pinnacle moments to the story. It starts their friendship and would be a terrific way to reintroduce Leiter's character. No Q and Moneypenny is understandable considering their lack of involvement in the novel. Additionally it gives EON an opportunity to let the audience forget about John Cleese and Samantha Bond who they will no doubt recast in Bond 22. I think replacing Leiter with someone else takes away from the Fleming aspect of the film. In LTK he didn't die so he could still be used even if he's disabled to some degree. Any thoughts?

If Leiter were to return Id want to see him with his LTK injuries, to me this whole rebooting Bond idea doesn't make any sense - but thats for another thread.

I'd prefer to see him uninjured, meeting Bond for the first time. I care less about the "film canon" (which is full of holes anyway) than I do about each film's internal consistency, entertainment value, and faithfulness to the book. It would make no sense, in the context of the CR story, for Felix to be handicapped, or to have a prior knowledge of Bond.

I could easily be wrong, but I am not expecting to see Felix Leiter in Casino Royale. I am basing this opinion purely on the lack of any real evidence regarding whether Leiter is actually in the script or not, and also the lack of rumours regarding actors in the frame to portray him.

I suppose if we can accept that Dench will be M in CR, and not Bernard Lee's replacement, we can buy Bond meeting Leiter for the first time....again.
