Hey everyone,
Dr. No and From Russia with Love are playing in Los Angeles, CA tonight at the Egyptian Theater starting at 9:15 p.m. This is a great theater and should be an amazing experience!

I know, I know. I went to the screening of Casino Royale at the Egyptian and had a great time. Also always nice to see the whole LA contingent of Bond fans. But I couldn't make it to this one.

The two films were practically sold out. The quality of the film prints were actually quite good and the audience was very into the films. They clapped when Connery first says Bond, James Bond, when Q enters in From Russia with Love, and the end of the fight with Grant. The worst part of the experience was that a man had an apparent stroke in the middle of Dr. No. They had to stop the film, call 911, etc. It seemed that the man was better when the paramedics arrived and hopefully did not suffer a massive stroke. I would hate to think that he will hate Dr. No after that experience. Once the movie started again everyone eventually got reenergized and ready for more Bond. Hopefully the Egyptian will have more events like this.

Is The Egyptian one of those privately owned "art house" type theatres?

I remember going to see Goldfinger in one, and thought it strange that a big movie like that would be playing at a small venue such as The Dendy. I was also taken aback a little by the predominantly female audience.

The penny dropped when virtually the whole house clapped when Pussy Galore first appeared. You see, it was around the time of Sydney's famous Gay Mardi Gras festival and The Dendy was running a Gay Film programme.

A 17 year old boy watching GF in an audience full of lesbians. Very serreal.

He was probably the 501st person standing in line to enter a 500 seat capacity theatre.:)

If I'm not lined up at the ticket counter at least one hour before opening, I give up and go home. I"m very choosy where I can sit.:)

The Egyptian is a spectacular "art house" theater with an interesting history. It was originally built by Sid Grauman of Chinese Theater fame and sits on Hollywood Boulevard right down the street from the Chinese. It was a major movie palace back in the day. It kind of went to pieces over the years and many renovations, but several years ago the American Cinematheque bought it and resorted it back into it's original movie palace style. They now have all kinds of interesting film retrospectives with guess speakers. It's become VERY popular.

Wow, very chic looking zencat. Looks like a place that could stand in for a Bond location.

Chinese, Egyptian. Sounds like Mr. Grauman had a theme going for more theatres.

Wow. Wouldn't that be nice to see those classics in the theatre. Wish I was in L.A. now.
