I know, I know. I went to the screening of Casino Royale at the Egyptian and had a great time. Also always nice to see the whole LA contingent of Bond fans. But I couldn't make it to this one.Blue Eyes (03 Feb, 2002 02:20 a.m.):

I remember going to see Goldfinger in one, and thought it strange that a big movie like that would be playing at a small venue such as The Dendy. I was also taken aback a little by the predominantly female audience.
The penny dropped when virtually the whole house clapped when Pussy Galore first appeared. You see, it was around the time of Sydney's famous Gay Mardi Gras festival and The Dendy was running a Gay Film programme.
A 17 year old boy watching GF in an audience full of lesbians. Very serreal.

He was probably the 501st person standing in line to enter a 500 seat capacity theatre.Blue Eyes (03 Feb, 2002 02:20 a.m.):

If I'm not lined up at the ticket counter at least one hour before opening, I give up and go home. I"m very choosy where I can sit.

The Egyptian is a spectacular "art house" theater with an interesting history. It was originally built by Sid Grauman of Chinese Theater fame and sits on Hollywood Boulevard right down the street from the Chinese. It was a major movie palace back in the day. It kind of went to pieces over the years and many renovations, but several years ago the American Cinematheque bought it and resorted it back into it's original movie palace style. They now have all kinds of interesting film retrospectives with guess speakers. It's become VERY popular.Blofeld's Cat (05 Feb, 2002 05:39 a.m.):
Is The Egyptian one of those privately owned "art house" type theatres?

Chinese, Egyptian. Sounds like Mr. Grauman had a theme going for more theatres.
