I would presume there hasn't been.

It's a fantastic idea, though. It would make a great comedy.

As long as people knew it definitely had nothing to do with the mainstream EON Craig films. Oh, and Craig could definitely not be in it.

No. But one could argue that parts of 1967's Casino Royale seem like a musical with Dusty Springfield singing "The Look of Love" against the backdrop of Vesper recruiting Evelyn Tremble, Mata Bond's big dance number in the temple, the song/montage after Miss Goodthighs drops a pill in Tremble's "shampoo".

Actually, a Bond musical COULD work. They certainly have a great repertoire of songs - think of all the Bond songs. This is the way lots of modern musicals are done these days - they're based on an artist's work - eg Queen the Musical. So there are quite a number of hits already there, and any number of plots and characters to choose from.

It'll be quite cool to see a Bond musical.

Just wondering though about a 'James Bond on Ice'. Bit like the Disney on Ice.

LOL :)

The closest thing we've had is courtesy of Mad magazine in 1965 or so. Mort Drucker and Frank Jacobs did "007," in which all the songs were sung to the tune of songs from "Oklahoma."

The story concerns James Bomb's foiling of a plot by ICECUBE to drag the United Kingdom up to the North Pole. The leader of ICECUBE is revealed to be Mike Hammer, who's mad at Bomb for stealing away his readers.

In the conclusion, the Beatles, Queen Elizabeth and other British notables sing a song that starts out:

0000000000000-oh seven, is the world's great spy there is today!
When the going's tough,
He gets might rough,
So you better get out of his way!

Sorry, that's off the top of my head, so the quotation may not be exact.

And given the time it was done by Mad, "James Bomb" is clearly drawn by Mort Drucker as Sean Connery.

A Bond musical? Well, it couldn't be boring! Weren't there originally lyrics to the James Bond theme? That would have to be the opening number, of course.

I'm getting visions of various men in tuxedoes and scantily-clad women whizzing about on jet-packs singing along to this now! :)

The James Bond musical will occur when Disney makes their eventual animated version of James Bond! :)

Bond's action & Walt Disney

:)

Actually James Bond wouldn't be too unDisneylike. He's an orphan and an outcast(kinda). Tracy would be the requisite love interest and Draco would be the doddery old father of said love interest. Blofeld would be the villain of course. Don't know what they would do about the cute animal sidekicks though. Make Felix into a monkey or raccoon?:)

You have to admit though, that all these guys in matching overalls in YOTL and TSWLM are practically screaming out to take part in a big musical number!

Picture the scene: the Japanese secret service ninjas and Blofeld's army dance/fight a la Westside Story around the hollowed-out volcano. Blofeld, Honey Ryder and Anya Amasova do high kicks atop the rocket gantry. Bond enters on the monorail with Shirley Bassey, clad in a sequined bikini; the two of them leap off in an artful fashion, whereupon they burst into song...

Or maybe not.

Mel Brooks, take notice!

Or:

During the climax, Sean Connery (in his light Darby O'Gill and the Little People singing voice):

'I'm done... with saving the world.
Why does it always have to be me.
I'm done... with shooting my gun.
I'd much rather sail out to sea.'

Cue, a dream ballet of Bond returning to the Royal Navy, dancing with sailors and gliding up and down deck during a storm. When he falls into the sea, he awakens and faces Blofeld.

How's that for a reboot? Eon, take notice!

Monty Norman should do a musical version of Dr. No. Just add a few more songs.

Thing is, can any of the previous five actors, and now Craig, actually sing?

- Connery could hold a tune in Dr No, but could he fill a stadium? I doubt it.
- Dalton tried singing to Mae West in Sextette. The clip I've seen from it was highly embarassing...
-...though arguably not as embarassing as Brosnan singing Row, Row Row Your Boat in Dante's Peak.

I've never heard Moore or Lazenby warble, but from the experiences above, Ii'm not holding my breath.
As for Craig, who knows? Maybe he's got a lovely singing voice.

And you beat me to it.

I, personally, would love seeing Casino Royale onstage.

In the early 90's when the film rights were blocked, combined with Dalton's desire to return to the stage, development plans were afoot for a James Bond musical. Using previously written songs (as was the fashion of the time), a number of tunes were developed. The idea was shelved but ressurrected with the Eon stage successes of Dana Broccoli's La Cava and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. In Showtune, the West End magazine a number of lyrics were reproduced*.

Here they are:

Come Spy With Me
(when Frank was going to sing the MR title song)

Come spy with me, let

Here's my opening song for JAMES BOND SUPERSTAR Rock opera

Because of censorship
Among CBn I can't say
Where James Bond soon will be
If you strip away the role from the man
You will see where James Bond soon will be
Brosnan!
You've started to believe
The things they say of you
You really do believe
That Connery is you!
And all the things you've done
Will soon be swept away
You've begun to matter more
Than the roles you play
Listen Brosnan I don't like what I see
All I ask is that you listen to me
And remember
I've been your avid fan all along
You have set us all on fire
We thought we've found the new Messiah
And we hoped you will play Bond again

I remember when this whole thing began
You were James Bond, and we called you The Man
And believe me
My admiration for you hasn't died
But every word you say today
Gets twisted 'round some other way
And they'll sue you if they think you've lied
Ireland, your famous son
Should have stayed a great unknown
Play in theatre Robin Hood
He'd have made good
Comedies like Wild Wild West
Would have suited Brosnan best
He'd have caused nobody harm
No one alarm

Listen Brosnan, do you care for your fans?
Don't you see we can't take this offence?
We are so confused
Have you forgotten how confused we are?
I am frightened by that Craig
For it's a risky chance to take
And they'll blow it if they go too far
If they go too far
Listen, Brosnan, to the TWINE soundtrack
You will know that we wanted you back
But it's sad to see our chances weakening with ev'ry hour
Cause the Broccolis are blind
Too much Fleming on their minds
It was beautiful, but now it's sour
Yes it's all gone sour
Ah --- ah ah ah --- ah
