CNN made fun of Craig for wearing a lifejacket....one of the commentators said he doesn't look like James Bond.

Daniel Craig is what I wanted and Daniel Craig is what I got.

I have to admit, it took me a while to warm to the guy, until I saw Layer Cake a few weeks ago. People who liked Dalton I think will love Craig, this news is so great!!!!! I am glad all of this rumor stuff is finally over! Now that we have our 007, I am sure rumors will pop up as to who's playing Vesper, LeChiffre, etc.

That's great news for me (and something I've suspected), but we all know how well Dalton went over with general audiences (despite giving a couple absolutely fantastic performances as Bond). So I don't know if this really is great news or not.

We'll find out by the end of 2006.

Could he look any cooler than that second photo?

He looks like a stone-cold killer. I can't believe they've been this brave.

I concur SNF--very brave. It has potential to really work. Will it? I honestly don't know--i'm ambivalent BUT more than willing to give Craig his shot and see what happens.

It's a good day. :)

Craig is officially Bond and I am officially extremely interested in and excited about Casino Royale.

Plus Paul Haggis has only done a dialogue polish so far- he will be rejoining the production after his current job is over.

I am surprised the official James Bond site wasn't ready to go with an immediate posting of the announcement or streaming live coverage of the event. They really missed an opportunity there. Sure, they might put it up later but why have everyone going to the BBC or Sky News when they should be heading to the official Bond site? Just an observation.

They weren't certain but it seemed the intention.

There was a publicity image handed out of Craig which a journo waved about (he appeared to have dark hair, but it was just dark), but I couldn't see it clearly. Was it a shot of him in character, I wonder? It seemed to be a perspective shot of him holding a gun, but I wasn't sure.

The answer was kind of fuzzy. He didn't know, but alluded to keeping it blond. That was just from Craig's response. He could have said that, but Michael and Barabara might have been thinking ... "no no no."

He said it was just dark lighting in that publicity photo (I think he was in character, yes) and that he has no plans to dye his hair.

And did Campbell say the martini receipe is in the film? I think he did. And Craig said he'd tried it.

Indeed. I think we all need that image. Right now! Let's see if it makes the papers tomorrow/tonight. Someone buy the Evening Standard.

Sky News spokesperson commented on his not being handsome enough and his chewing gum not being Bondish. BBC films reviewer seemed happy with him, but the main achormen and women probably were not entirely convinced.
I 'm afraid the non fans won't buy him. I watched the announcement with a girl who looked rather amused by not ever having heard of him, and not liking his looks.
His voice is better than Brosnan's.

The vermin that are the British press were clearly trying to goad him into making a newsworthy statement by essentially calling ugly and not like Bond. What absolute vermin. Here's a few stills of him from the conference. Yahoo! has a slew up now. He looks like Bond to me here. I don't care if he's blond. Roger Moore didn't look like any of the other Bonds.

I'm sure Craig is wearing make-up but judging from other photos I've seen of him, it sure does look like he's had something done to him. Some kind of laser treatment to his skin. It's like they shaved a few years off him. He also doesn't look as gaunt as he has before. Glad to see that Nicole Kidman movie is feeding him well.

Wow, what can I say, this is the best news on Bond in ages!
I can't wait to see the conference, surely someone must have it or put it on the interenet.

Good news!

Craig will be just fine...

People upset with no tuxedo or the gum forget PB had long hair and a beard --- and (God forgive us) no tie.

Now lets have some fun!

:) :)

I, for one, am eating crow today because I did not believe he was going to be the new OO7. Anyway, I have recently posted an abridged version of the presser at my website if anyone is interested.

Congrats Mr. Craig and good luck.

This is sooo good news. Finally we know! I think Craig will be just fine as James Bond. This movie will the best in a long time I think. Everything seems good about it. I hope the Craig at least dyes his hair black, this movie is supposed to be the real James Bond, right? Then I really hope we have the black haired Bond. A James Blone would not be fun to see. Anyway, great news that the speculations is finally over!

If you haven't seen it yet:

The first official photo of Daniel Craig as James Bond:

Looks fantastic I think. Also his haircut is perfect. The older this day becomes, the more I appreciate his nomination.

Yeah I think it looks pretty good. Actually it reminds me a lot of a Fleming photo. Maybe that's what they were going for... I don't know.
