Red Grant has to be pretty excited about this one; I know a CS adaption was high on his wish list. As for me, I'm very interested in what Jim Lawrence stories will go along with it. River of Death is a bit weak, but Golden Ghost was one of his best. Should be interesting.

I'd expect River Of Death to accompany it if they're going in order, Golden Ghost if they have three in total in the collection.

Due to the critical reviews of Colonel Sun, I always thought it was kind of funny that the year Ann Fleming passed away was the year that Glidrose started up the continuation novels again (not counting Pearson and Wood).

Contrary to popular belief, Ann Fleming's thoughts about the continuations were pretty much irrelevant - she was never on the board, remember? She could conjure up some inconveniently bad publicity by badmouthing it, but she couldn't have blocked a continuation, as CS proves. She didn't stop CS, even though she was very vocally rude about it, so there would have been no reason she could have stopped LR, either.

Yes, it is. Just made the point because a lot of people seem to feel that Ann Fleming had a say in continuations, when she didn't. I don't think her badmouthing made any impact on CS' sales: it just isn't an exciting book, ultimately. But I've discussed that elsewhere. It could well be that they wanted to avoid her badmouthing the series. She hated Amis' effort, so Christ alone knows what she would have made of Gardner.

Although I haven't read your review, the "isn't an exciting book" is something I can definitely agree with. I thought it dragged. To me, it was one of those books that reading 20 pages feels like 2 hours. Not to say the book didn't have some good stuff in it, it did, but it was - as you said - not exciting.

I think Red mentioned that both SPY and SUN are very long stories. They might not have room for three stories in these books.

I am geeked beyond belief. I hope the sales for these next two are great so that Titan will march on. The idea that my scruffy copies of Lawrence's works are going to be replaced by these beautiful volumes gives me a wonderful feeling I've not had since I picked up the paper a few decades ago and found out that Gardner was bringing Fleming's Bond back to life.
