Fantastic.
I absolutely loved SilverFin so I'm already going to get this one. But I'm also a diver so that's another hook that's got me wanting to read this even more.
I'm particularly interested in seeing how Young Bond copes with learning to skin dive.

This seems like a very promising book. Something that will keep me reading. I'm a big fan of Higson's work. Done a very good job of carrying on the Bond spirit, and as Bond kid, that's tough.

The last time I was really, truly excited by a Bond book was when I read 'Colonel Sun' last summer. Before that... I don't even remember. Maybe when I read all the Flemings for the first time a decade ago. But the Gardner and Benson books didn't do anything for me - they were nice, escapist reading but nothing to get really excited over. 'Silverfin' on the other hand, had me hooked from the opening paragraph. I loved this book and am anxiously awaiting book 2!

My one thought on book 2 is this: many of Bond's quirks and characteristics were covered in 'Silverfin' (spoilers: his car, his profession, his drink of choice, his scar, etc.) Did Higson want to get all of that out of the way on the first one, or are there more to be revealed? Certainly a major one that must be covered is Bond's detachment from women. This is something that is explained very well in John Pearson's 'biography,' but seems to be at odds with how Higson's Bond remembers his mother

More book 2 details from Higson via two questions kicked off by CBn's own Righty007.

Q. Chris, 16, Cleveland, Ohio, USA: Is Double M still the working title for the second book or has a final title been selected? A. Double M is still the working title. I quite like it as it combines the double from 007 and M , who is head of the British Secret Intelligence Service MI6. But the title's not considered racy enough. Double M (MM) refers to the symbol of a secret criminal society in the second book. Q. David, 14, Loxwood: Can you reveal anything about the next book? A. It's mainly set in Sardinia. It contains pirates, bandits, art thieves and a shoot out in a cave; everything you could want from a James Bond book. James goes to Sardinia on a school archaeological trip. I wanted to set the second book somewhere reasonably exotic. James Bond is known for travelling to such places. But it had to be somewhere James could get to during the summer holidays. That's why I chose the Mediterranean. I didn't want to use somewhere overly familiar like Greece or Italy or Spain. People don't know much about Sardinia. It's an interesting island with a history of banditry. I've been there a few times and I really like it. I saw an artist's impression of a cave there. Inside are the remains of a Neolithic village. I thought it would make a great villain's lair. I visited the cave last week and it's not quite as exciting as the artists' impression but the whole island is covered in remains of monuments and towers from the past, built between 2,000 and 3,000 BC. It's a fantastic setting for an adventure.

The first official mention of Book 2 on the Ian Fleming Publications website. It's not much, but it's the kind of thing we like to hear.

The manuscript of YB2 has been safely delivered and according to the powder-room grapevine, it is fantastic. The as yet untitled Book 2 will be published in the UK in January 2006.

You know, at the moment, I'm more excited about this book than I am about Casino Royale.

sounds exciting and the title i love, better than Double M or Poppycock.

Change the subject slightly. I saw a Alex Rider book 'Skeleton Key' The front cover had the same sparkley effect as the Silverfin one did. Also the font in the book seemed very similay. Sounds interesting. has anybody else noticed
