Anyone know a release date for this stewpid book down under? As crap as it sounds, seems kinda rude that they havent bothered to release it down here yet.

Angus & Robertson had a late-May release date listed on their website at one point, but that has since vanished. I actually e-mailed them this morning to clarify the date.

Neither QBD nor Dymocks have listings for SilverFin.

I'm actually really eager to pick this up now, given the better-than-I-expected reviews.

I might even read it as soon as I get it [I'm in the process of reading the whole series from Fleming to Benson; I'm currently reading James Bond: The Authorised Biography of 007].

How much of a postage hit do you guys take if you order it from the UK or U.S. Amazon?

No idea. I've never ordered from overseas online retailers because I've never been too sure how it all works [in terms of currency, etc.].

Looks like Australia is in the "Rest of World" category.

*has spent the last half-hour negotiating Amazon.co.uk's website*

Ah, I see. They're really quite cheap, too, except for the shipping, which is twice as much as the book itself. I think I'll just wait it out til May.

Wish they'd hurry up and set up an Australian website!

On a sidenote, I had no idea this book was so shiny, though!

Looking forward to seeing the rest of the covers in this series. Should make for a great-looking set, if they keep the styles consistant.

Ah, here we go.

Penguin's Australia website confirms the May release date. $16.95.

The photographs of the cover are decieving in that the sparkle doesn't show up, but as you say [dark], it is most definitely evident on the real deal.

It won't surprise me at all if I'm able to snaffle one of these "error" copies straight off the shelf here in Indonesia. US/UK books tend to ship really quickly onto bookshelves here, but not all that many so one needs to be quick because there's not usually any re-stocking of a particular book.

Shouldn't be too difficult I'd imagine. Seems to be quite a few out there surprisingly. :)

Don't libraries usually get the book almost immediately as it's released? If they want the book, they usually order early?

Thats the question, will they want the book? If even hardcore Bond fans cant be bothered reading it, I dont see a huge demand for this book.

But these kids arent going to read it if they've never heard it. I'm not sure what its like overseas, but there's been zero promotion for this book downunder.

A good point, yes. It looks like the promotion in the UK is pretty heavy and the US will be as well at the end of April.

I wouldn't be too fussed about the lack of promotion yet, Brendan. If the book's still three months away from release, I'm hardly surprised we haven't got anything yet. I'm sure we'll see a mini-onslaught of Young Bond publicity come May.

Libraries around here are [or, at least, were - it's been a while since I've been to one] pretty good at picking up books as soon as they've been released.

Here's the response from Angus & Robertson:

Silverfin is available to order. It is not yet available in Australia (June 2005), but can be brought in from the UK.

Might get them to order it in, then!

If that's the case, Borders and Dymocks would do the same thing. One just needs to clarify that they are willing tp pay for the import copy.

I had Bond Girls Are Forever imported a little while back through Angus & Robertson. A $4 fee applied, which I think was a flat rate, regardless of the size of the book.

They were good, too; I had the book within a few weeks.

I bought all the Bond books in the second-most recent release, that I hadn't gotten from A & R recently online, got them much quicker then when they quoted, and the price is basically the same everywhere.

SilverFin is now being carried by QBD and Dymocks; Angus & Robertson still list it as coming soon.

In any case, I'll be picking it up as soon as I see it.

I saw it yesterday in the 'Waldenbooks Recommends' section, but there were only like two copies stuck between some other books.

Yup.

Picked up my copy today from Angus and Robertson (who had the book stocked in their adult section). It's a first edition. QBD were also stocking first editions (albeit in the young adult section). Didn't get around to checking Dymocks.

I couldn't get it in A&R, Dymocks or QBD, had to go to Borders to get it.
