There looks to be a Bond event brewing in Hollywood -- tonight (6/29/01). The extremely cool, recently restored Egyptian Theater on Hollywood Blvd is screening CASINO ROYALE with a Q&A afterward with director Val Guest. I'm hearing all the usual L.A. based Bondies are going to be there: Greg Bechtloff (ace 007 Magazine reporter and boy toy), John Cork (DVD maven and Eon insider), Ben Miller (YOLT expert and all around cool dude), John Cox (sex pervert), and who knows who else?
I'll let you know how it goes.

Well, I always thought CASINO ROYALE was an unwatchable mess, but last night was a revelation. This movie plays GREAT in front of an audience. People laughed and applauded throughout, and you could hear a pin drop during the Bond LeChiffer card game. There's more tension in that scene as ANY gambling scene in any Bond movie. I can't believe it, but I'm now a CASINO ROYALE fan. The same thing happened when I saw a screening of DR. NO. It really makes a difference when you see one of these older Bond flicks with a (receptive) audience.
