That was indeed a very good interview. I believe the best one I've read on this site. You asked all the questions that most Bond fans wanted to know answers to (and a few I wouldn't have thought to ask).

Have you written other interviews I am not (yet) aware of?

p.s. Ten years ago I was in LA for the Bond convention. There was a screening of "Goldfinger" in the AMPAS theater. A friend of mine sat behind Richard Kiel (which my friend admitted was the worst seat in the house). Anyway, a day or so later there was a huge throng of press photographers going crazy setting up this shot of George Lazenby standing in one the "Goldfinger" DB5s (through the ejector seat roof). On one side is Richard Kiel pulling him one way and on the other side is Gloria Hendry, Martine Beswick, and I believe Lynn Holly Johnson pulling George the other way...a sort of tug of war. Anyone ever see this picture?

p.s.2 remind me not to use the washroom at chimera01's place.

Wow... what an interesting picture that would be... I've NEVER see it. Anyone know of this picture? I'm sure there are plenty of people who would love to see it.

Yes, so true... Kiel is very fan friendly despite his pair of Teeth in the Bond Films.

I had the pleasure of meeting Richard in Atlanta in 1993. He was at an auto show that had several Bond items and cars on display. I was thrilled to get an autographed picture of him as Jaws. I held my son in line to see him, who at the time was only 4 years old and already a Bond fan. I made the remark to him that he was his biggest fan.

Well, I imagine it would be a dream come true to meet such a Bond star as Richard Kiel... Jaws himself. He's my favourite Henchman... I remember seeing TSWLM and MR wen I was 9 and I liked to see Jaws.

I only saw Simon Lebon and Roger Taylor of Duran Duran (They signed my AVTAK Soundtrack LP and Cassete) when they came to Buenos Aires on December 2005, and I tried to meet Maria Grazia Cuccinotta when she came in August 15th (one day before my birthday), to visit the programme of Diego Maradona, The night of the 10, but after the show she went back to Italy.

I love Richard Kiel as Jaws in TSWLM and Moonraker (Yes I know, I know-but he had good moments in that film) He is a great comedic actor, for example Happy Gilmore. Definitely on the list of the most memorable Bond henchmen.

Very sad news, and what a lovely man. There's interesting obits of Richard at the MI6hq website and also at the JBIFC site (www.007info); also in various UK newspapers. Sir Roger Moore has also paid moving tribute.

Very saddened by this news and very annoyed I hadn't seen any "news" sites sharing this loss. Entertainment topics include Khloe Kardashian splits (surprise), ex-Obama staffer joins CNN and Anna Kendrick sings again in a film. Richard Kiel made an unforgettable mark in pop culture and there's got to be a large number of people out there who'd like to know this. Even Gottfreid John's death last week seemed to garner more attention, no disrespect intended, but Richard Kiel is one of those figures identifiable to so many.

 

It was exactly a year ago that I made a trip to Cincinnati, Ohio to meet Richard Kiel and get his autograph at a comic con. I actually interview a lot of celebrities and entertainers for my job, everybody from Oscar nominees and award-winning composers to American Idols and usually not nervous, just a part of my job. But I was a little giddy and fanboyish meeting Richard Kiel. Sure I love him for his Bond connection, but he left his mark in so many other shows and films -- from The Twilight Zone and Wild Wild West and UNCLE to Burt Reynolds and Adam Sandler movies.

 

It's funny, something told me to make the trip that day to meet Richard. And a year later I'm so glad I did. I brought a copy of a Moonraker poster magazine to get signed and I also got one of the photos at his table of him grabbing Roger Moore in TSWLM. What I also liked was the personal attention. Instead of just standing in a line and getting the autograph and going, you got to sit down and chat as he autographed your item(s) and his wife took a picture of Richard grabbing your head with his huge hands. He was very soft spoken and I asked him if he was doing well health wise and he said he was fine. His wife, I believe her name is Diane, was also incredibly sweet and friendly. I noticed Richard was wearing the Jaws Swatch watch released in 2008 and she told me how nice it was his being included in that and how well the Broccoli family has treated them over the years.

 

Richard Kiel was one of the Bond series' best ambassadors and will be sadly missed. My heart goes out to his family.
