I have never read it, although it certainly sounds tempting...I hope Higson is reading it though so he can get the facts right! :)

I'm halfway throught it too. I'm moving through it quite slowly actually. It's not as entertaining as I hoped but is still a pretty good read.
I urge every Bond fan to track down a copy.

I'm still trying to look for a new copy of it on eBay, but some of the first editions I've come across are quite expensive!

This one seems to be one of the most difficult for me to grab.

It was re-released in the late 80's by a publisher called Black Cat something or other. That's the copy I have. Aim for that one, as it should be the cheapest version available.

I have mixed emotions about the book.

In some cases....in regards to his childhood, his marriage to Tracy....that's all great stuff.

But then we here his mother was a Witch, he loves kids, other nonsense, and I just shake my head at that.

It's definately worth the read, and I am curious to see how much from Pearson CH borrows for his new series.

I have a confession to make. I haven't read it. :)

I started reading it way back when I was just getting into reading Bond bigtime, but when I was only a few chapters into it, NOBODY LIVES FOREVER came out and I couldn't wait to start reading the "new Gardner" so I put it down... And I never picked it back up. I know, I know, I need to read it. I remembering liking what I read. I have time now. It

Zencat, I'd much rather see you write some Bond fanfiction than read that.

It's a good read, but it's not a great read. If you can borrow the book, read it. If you can get it off of Ebay for less than seven bucks, buy it.
Otherwise...wait to borrow it from someone.

:)

I love everything about this book, except the last chapter which is absolute rubbish. But you'll find that out for yourself.

Pearson was actually quite clever, intertwining Fleming's life with Bond's and I think this was his way of giving his friend Fleming the life he really wanted. I don't wish to spoil the book for anyone who hasn't read it, but there are plenty of comparisons to be drawn between the two. I suggest reading both in succession and you'll see what I mean. :)

I quite like very much that book!
I find it.... surprising.
For people who say somtimes it is non sense, don't forget it is not the Fleming Bond, but the REAL Bond. A real spy who is surprised by the way Fleming described him.
I consider this book as a collection of short stories. And an interesting way of filling holes Fleming let in James Bond life.

:)

The more Bond fans that read "JAMES BOND The Authorised Biography" (especially the earlier chapters), the more pressure that may be put on Whos-he-what-it (and IFP?) to get it right for Young James Bond.....

Maybe.....

Perhaps.....

LOL! No, no, his comment, after saying that he wasn't sure if he had read the book, and then just says: "I own 8 copies." :) I love it!

I like the Pearson book. I found it well-crafted and entertaining. It provides a ton of 007 backstory, which as we know, is something Fleming pretty much avoided until YOLT. When I began reading, I was at first inclined to take issue with some of Pearson's choices. But I soon sat back and just went for the ride. It was fun!

Recommended.

I enjoyed how it gives a really different yet similar take on Bond.

.......I do not like how Pearson kept the names M........ and Mollony as real people in the secret service......... since that is well known to be false.

.....When this book came out........ did it ever create any confusion with people thinking that James Bond might ACTUALLY BE real?? It seems like it could......

In the copy I have it actually says inside the front cover "A Ficitonal Biography". It's quite clever though because it only says it once and on the back it says "For security reasons, no photographs can appear in any edition of this book". That was a nice touch I thought.
