Sidenote: ugh, I was moritified to read that next week at 8pm Wednesday, TEN will air an "Australian Idol Special" of The Resort...

WHEN WILL IT END!?

Slightly later, it would seem.

Mercifully, the special has been dragged back an hour and a half, in light of some shuffling in the schedule as The Secret Life of Us is pulled off air after abysmal ratings.

Yeah, it's my mother's favourite show, but she's found it entirely unwatchable this season.

Frankly I just hate Evan's voice. He sounds so dopey! And he doesn't make me want Hungry Jacks at all!

That and the fact that you wouldn't receive Network Ten in the U.S. :)

Heck, I was at work and I still watched it! :) Then I came home and watched the rest.

The World Is Not Enough is really starting to compete with GoldenEye for my favourite film.

I love TWINE, defintely in my top five Bond films. I'd say it more often, but I cant be bothered having to defend my right to actually enjoy a Brosnan Bond film around here.

Gee, guys, this thread's going everywhere! Anyway, yes, Paulini should have won it instead of Guy, yes Guy shows up on too many programs, but that's Channel 10s fault. They have this annoying habit of saturating our senses with their Australian Idol/Big Brother/The Resort "celebrities". As an aspiring screenwriter (currently writing what should be the next Bond film) , it bugs me seeing these reality TV shows that cost nothing to make and possess no imagination. After all, do we really need to see a bunch of people sharing a house with cameras in every room? Meanwhile, actors, writers and directors in this country struggle to get work.

And yes, Channel 7s banners are too big and annoying.
Anyway, gang, I'm at work and it's time to pack up and get out of here. Take it easy.

Not meaning to be rude, but Australian dramas usually suck. Our actors are terrible, they all seem to scream 'look at me, im acting, arent i brilliant'. Its no wonder reality shows are everywhere, they are great entertainment.
Actors, writers etc wouldnt struggle to work if they made decent products. Until they do im quite happy to watch 12 people sit in a house and do nothing, or watch them sing and then ridicule them, its entertaining. Thats what television is about, entertainment. If you want to be a screenwriter remember that.

Yeah, Brendan007, I agree with you to an extent. Aussie dramas are hard to watch (I'm being polite here). The acting tends to be sloppy, but then the actors don't really have much to work with because the scripts are so poorly written. It appears to me that the same half a dozen people write these shows and they keep getting regular gigs. And when they try to do something that they think is cutting edge like "Stingers", it just comes across as an attempt to copy something that the Americans do so easily.
As for watching 12 people sit in a house and do nothing, well if they had a little bit of charisma, then it would be a pleasant way to spend an hour. However, I can't sit and watch a bunch of people who, if I'd met their type at a party, I would probably find some excuse to leave.
I agree that TV is about entertainment. You said that if I want to be a screenwriter, I should remember that.
And that is my point; I, and others like me who want to write scripts, don't get the chance to do so because our TV screens are filled with 'real' people doing and saying real things...and it's as boring as all hell.
We are Bond fans because it's a fantasy world that's portrayed on the screen. If Bond were more true to life, then Bond would probably be balding, driving a 1985 Ford Escort and battling budget cuts at MI6 rather than crazy, world-domination types who employ evil henchmen with metal teeth and razor-edged bowler hats. As for his licence to kill..."good God, man, have you taken leave of your senses!!??"
Sometimes, when I tell people that I want to write thrillers/action movies/Genre films, I get criticised for it; "Ah, why doncha write somefing that's more realistic and true to life, Vodka?"
Because I would love people to forget, for just a couple of hours, about their mortgages, nagging bosses and the parking ticket they got earlier that day.
If I want real life, I'll walk out my front door and live it rather than eavesdrop on somebody else's "reality".
I get where you're coming from, Brendan, and I respect your opinion. I just remember a time when there wasn't so much reality TV on the air. It wasn't so long ago. Hopefully, the bubble will burst soon and we'll start seeing actors on TV again.
And that's my rant, gang. I do go on, don't I?

I, too, am struggling to come to terms with the sudden distaste for Brosnan people around here seem to have attained. And how those of us who like him are lesser fans. *shrugs*

As for the state of Australian TV, I'd take lousy drama over any reality TV anyday. Except for maybe this new Home and Away spin-off. :)

Interesting to note reality TV is floundering, at last. The HotHouse has lost one weekly timeslot and The Resort has been pushed back an hour. My Restaurant Rules is underperforming as well.

I just hope Australian Idol 2 or Big Brother 4 doesn't give the genre the boost in the arm it needs to stay afloat right now.
