Licence Renewed, For Special Services, and Icebreaker by John Gardner will finally be re-published together in one volume this June. As far as I am aware they will only be available in the UK.

Well, that's good I guess. I was really looking forward to them in the US as well. :)

We'll have to get some pics on here when they come out! Hopefully, they'll be better than some previous efforts.

Here's the cover. Forgot to throw it in when I started the thread.

Cool. Thanks, Jordan. I already have a main page story all written up for this. It's not due to be published this June...it was supossed to be published LAST June, but was delayed twice. It's new offical release date is Jan 31, but it's available now. :) Mine was shipped 2 days ago from Amazon.co.uk. I was waiting for my copy to arrive so I could have a cover scan. But now that I have it... :)

Sweet. I'd given up hope that this omnibus was for real.

Don't care for the cover at all, but I'm very pleased to see Gardner finally back in print.

The cover art is the same art Coronet used on their 1995 edition of For Special Services.

Huh! Well, I thought they would come out with something new, but the Coronet's did some pretty good justice to the James Bond novels, I like those.

Yes. I guess it was too much trouble for them, though.

I wish it wasn't in Coronet. I have a copy of FRWL by them and I find the text to be quite difficult to read, ie. the way they've set it out. I prefer Penguin's layout by miles. I'll still probably get it thought since I'm trying to read all the Gardners.

The cover's pretty nifty but I thought they would have come up with something new rather than reusing one of the old covers.
Does anyone know what they other two were? I think the Licence Renewed one was a pearl necklace or something but I've never seen the Icebreaker one.

How far did Coronet get with the Bond novels? I know the did all the Fleming's, Colonel Sun and a number of the Gardner's but I'm not sure how many.

My Coronet High Time to Kill is very easy to read, then again, it helps when you have good eyesight like i do.

That cover is awful because it gives the wrong impression. Bond is a recognizable image because of his single Walther (or the Browning or whatever he used during the early Gardner stories). He's not about Uzis or whatever those guns are blazing away.

While it's been years since I read For Special Services, I don't remember any huge shootouts, but I could be wrong. Either way, I'm just amazed that they are taking one of the most recognizable characters in the world and rather than using silloute (spelling) or something that would identify it as Bond, they make it look like a Rambo novel or some cheap soldier of fortune thing.

I do have good eyesight I just don't like the way they set it out. I think it's different in HTTK though because I've got some other Coronets that are pretty easy to read.

I just find the text in the Bond ones too, I don't know clumped together. It's unconfortable to read. Or maybe it's just me...

Shame about the cover, but at least they're back out there.

Couldn't agree more. Truly horrible.

Mind you, you could argue that Gardner's 007 has much more in common with Rambo or a soldier of fortune than Ian Fleming's James Bond, so.... :)

Tanger, I believer Coronet did the covers for the following John Gardner novels: LR, FSS, WLOD, SF, Cold. There may be more, I'll have to check.

:)

Yes, I think so, but I'm not sure, it seemed that they didn't always use the same 'cover design' for all of their books, but I son't know a real lot about all the Coronets.

Got my Gardner Omnibus. Looks slick. Here's the front. (FYI: The flash makes it appear more yellow than it actually is).

With any luck, somewhere here will stock them.

I own older copies of the three novels, but it'd be nice to pick up the new omnibus. Let's hope they continue to release these.
