Height - 6'2"
Age by 2007 - 43

"Clive Owen had a recurring role on a series of BMW commercials as their mysterious driver. He played a valet in the film Gosford Park (2001) and played an unnamed character driving a BMW in 'The Bourne Identity' "

Owen would most likely bring a dark, dangerous edge to Bond in the Dalton-style, but some may argue that he doesn't really look like the classic depiction of 007...

There's no doubt in my mind that he would portray the character from the Ian Fleming books in much the same way that Timothy Dalton did. Perhaps we would at least see James Bond's psychologist Sir James Maloney in a James Bond film if Owen was hired?

My favourite to the role. Think he would fit perfectly in the role as James Bond. He would probably not be some humourous, which I think would be great!

I posted this on Clive Owen, at another Bond Board, back in December of 2001.

After having studied Clive Owen over the past few months, he is my ideal choice to play James Bond, after Pierce Brosnan retires his licence to kill. The man is handsome, without being pretty. He is expressive, without coming off as pretentious. I sincerely think that with Clive Owen, we have an actor that might rival Dalton's literary interpretation of Fleming's Bond. If any of you have any doubts, check out www.bmwfilms.com , the truth is out there!!! After Roger retired, Pierce was my choice...Dalton came to far supercede my expectations...but Pierce was my choice. Clive Owen is my pick to replace Brosnan. I want to know what you guys and gals think!!!!!

While I'm also keen on Gerald Butler, Clive Owen is still my hands on favorite to succeed Brosnan!!!

I love to see Owen onscreen. He's a very charismatic and engaging actor to watch. Yet, I can't see him as Bond. It's not impossible he will eventually get it and I'd be interested in his interpretation, but he wouldn't be one of my first choices. At the moment, I can't pin point one actor who I think would be perfect. I prefer Hugh Jackman to Owen, because Jackman possesses the sex appeal and physical experience the part requires. Also he's a lot more conventionally handsome and has a better posture (I always found Owen to be a little too slender to play Bond). Owen just doesn't strike me as a ladykiller. Someone who owns a room whenever he walks in. I'm looking for an actor who can bring back that slightly arrogant swagger Connery brought to the role. I must say that Brosnan does the part justice in this department. Not saying I want another Brosnan neccesarily, but I do want another Bond. And Owen simply doesn't remind me of Bond. He's just too low key to play him.

I have the suspicion, crashdrive, that if CBn (and you) had been around in 1972 and 1986 (well, I know you were around in 1986 :) ), you'd have dismissed Moore and Dalton as potential Bonds in much the same way as you dismiss Owen.

Fair enough. It's your opinion. But I think the public at large may be rather less rigid in its criteria for a Bond actor. If Owen were cast as 007, I'm sure he'd find an audience (I know a couple of people who think, based on what they don't appreciate is tabloid hype, that he is the next Bond - when I asked them if they'd prefer Jackman, their replies were along the lines of "He can't be Bond, he's an Aussie" [their view, not mine]).

At the very least, Owen is a better and more realistic candidate than 99.9% of the names often bandied about (Ralph Fiennes, Colin Farrell, Mel Gibson, Ewan McGregor, Robbie Williams, etc. etc.).

Loom, I'm not dismissing Owen, I'm saying he wouldn't fit my own personal interpretation of the character. The same goes for Moore and (to a lesser extent) Dalton. But I'm not saying he wouldn't stand a chance. Quite on the contrary, he's definately one of the most likely candidates. But that's not enough reason for me to accept him as Bond. I'm sure there is an actor who is more suitable than Owen. And for me, Jackman fits the bill (eventhough I also hope there's an actor better than Hugh).

One of my only problems with Owen is his age. As it states above, he will be 43 in 2007. This means if the films are still 3 years apart, he will be 49/50 by the time of his third.

I feel we need a slightly young actor who will be able to do more films. I know the argument about Brosnan's current age and Moore's age in LALD, however, I feel one of the things that has kept Bond going is the constants of actor in the role and I would like to see another 6/7 films from one actor.

Apart from that, I think Owen looks good for the part.

Lancaster, I could envision Clive Owen aging gracefully and suspect that he would be able to deliver as many Bond films as Brosnan has. It's funny to think that only 9 years have passed since 'Goldeneye'! Anyhow, regarding Clive Owen...I recently acquired an online version of a Fleming authorized portrait sketch of the literary Bond. Upon seeing it, after all these years, I was instantly reminded of Clive Owen!!!
