Okay, so I'm off by a couple months (IB came out in May 1983), but it's never too late to pay tribute to my favorite John Gardner book!

Here's my special 20 years of ICEBREAKER pic.

Great collection, Zencat!

Just stumbled onto this French edition of the book.

Doesn't top the Portuguese art for the adaption of Licence to Kill... foreseeing the reaction to the film, perhaps? *ducks*

I saw these on eBay. I'm thinking about bidding on that French Icebreaker.

Just looking at the French cover. What the hell is that next to the briefcase? It looks like an alarm clock.

That's got to be one of the worst covers of any book of any kind. Do you have to be Portugese to get it or is it really that bad?

I've read the book once, but I like it. Pretty cool thing, the copy I have is a first edition hardcover US printing I snagged for $10 at a used bookstore in Glendale. I bought it after I couldn't find the paperback copy there, which would have been half the cover price, roughly $1.75.

Great book that would make a great film. I've never understood why they haven't taken advantage of the wealth of great material in Gardner's books for film.

The first Bond book I ever read, well sort of. I read about 3 chapters of Icebreaker when I was about 8 years old. Needless to say I never finished it. But I am making my way through the series and this one I am looking forward to. I can't believe it's been 20 years since it was published. It's an antique!

They have...in fact there is a whole thread here on CBn dedicated to pointing out instances in which EON have ripped off the Gardner books...

I've heard that they used parts of Icebreaker for DAD.

Xencat,

Do you know any websites that carry pictures of the first five Gardner covers as they were when first released in hardback in the UK? I found them on Bondian.com but they weren't big enough to use as background wallpaper. Icebreaker is a particular fave cover of mine. I'd like to do a big blow up of it for my PC. It's also the closest i'll get to having a first edition. I just can't stump up the bucks needed for a pristine original.

Hawkeye.

Hey Hawkeye,

I emailed you a very high res ICEBREAKER (hope it doesn't take you and hour to download), and the only Mighter Than The Sword that I have (per your email).

Enjoy. And welcome to CBn, btw. :)

Thanks Zencat. Sorry about that e-mail bouncing, i'd let my inbox get too full. i'm terrible for hoarding old e-mails. i'm clearing it out now though. Thanks for posting up the Icebreaker jacket, the 200dpi image looks great. Do you have shots of FSS, ROH and NLF in 200dpi that you could post up? Also, sorry to ask for this again, could you post up the full cover you have for Mr*'s MTTS as i couldn't get the e-mail attachments to work - they just came out as a little box with a read cross in it.

The folks on these forums are much friendlier and easier to approach (you know, textually) than i expected. I was hesitant about registering in case it was all close knit and no-one would talk to me. I'm pleased to find people so personable.

Is there anything Bond related (or else) that i could help you out with to return the favour?

Hamwkeye.

Hawkeye, let me just take this moment to give you this one piece of advice:

Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.
