When I first read this press release, I instantly wanted N.E.M.E.S.I.S. We never got a book called S.P.E.C.T.R.E., so this seemed perfect. Also, I love one word titles, even if they're acronyms.
But then the more I said Double or Die out loud, the more I started to like it. I like how it looks. I like to say it. So I switched. But now that I've read Charlie's explanation of each title, I think The Deadlock Cipher might be the most appropriate title. So I can't decide. Well, I have a month to make up my mind. ![]() ![]() Visit The Young Bond Dossier, now the OFFICIAL site for Young Bond news "How do you kill five hours in Rio if you don't samba?" |

Went on instinct, so Double or Die.
Zen, when the Young Bond website encourages a pre-order (via Amazon) it mentions it could even be a Limited Edition (presumably as opposed to the standard paperback). Do you know anything of this? Will it be an upfront slip-cased hardcover liked the post-publication UK efforts on Silverfin and Blood Fever. |

I really like "The Deadlock Cipher" for the title...
N.E.M.E.S.I.S. seems more appropriate to a cartoon like James Bond Jr. Double or Die is okay but seems rather generic... ![]() |

All three titles are interesting, however I think IFP should pick another joined-up title in the tradition of the first two Young Bond titles- something like this perhaps:
"DeadLock" Anyway that's not going to happen so perhaps N.E.M.E.S.I.S. is my favourite. Are the last 3 initials meant to signify MI6??? |

Even though it sounds a bit like a Ludlum novel, The Deadlock Cipher is my choice of these.
I perferred Higson's suggested Shoot the Moon. Sounds like a prequel to Moonraker. ![]() Confessed Fleming Purist (Tea Is Mud)"What a fool! I don't like any of them to be quite honest. Double or Die sounds like a weak Gardner title. N.E.M.E.S.I.S. reminds me too much of the last Star Trek movie - I dislike this one the most. I don't know what to think of The Deadlock Cipher, but I'm not a fan. I guess I would go with that.
These are pretty bad though. I wasn't a huge fan of some of Charlie's working titles, but in retrospect those seem a lot better. I preferred his working title "Double M" over Blood Fever too. Actually made sense with the story. ---- Having read Charlie's note just now, I feel more comfortable with The Deadlock Cipher. I really don't like the other two. ![]() ![]() |

I voted for N.E.M.E.S.I.S. because it sounds more mysterious with regards to the story. Also I think it sounds much better next to the other two - SilverFin, Blood Fever and NEMESIS sounds so much better than Silverfin, Blood Fever and The Deadlock Cipher.
IMO it might be the sort of title that will bring more fans to the series. I also think it'd look nice on with that red cover background if they go for that. ![]() ![]() Agent T the Lone Wolf |

If I had to pick one, I'd go with Double or Die.
I don't like the idea of having the title be decided by the fans for two reasons: 1) It more or less signifies that Ian Fleming Publications can't make up their minds. 2) It's one thing to not like the final title of a book, but when you know it was the decision of ORDINARY FANS (and not an educated choice by IFF), it is much more annoying. ![]() "The art of making a Bond movie is to do exactly the same thing- only to do it differently." --Christopher Wood

A very interesting move!
Instantly cut out 'N.E.M.E.S.I.S' - very immature sounding, even more than the last two. I always felt the titles didn't do the novels justice. For that reason, it had to be 'Double or Die' - its quite catchy, and the most mature sounding. If it was either 'DOD' or 'TDC', I'd be happy, though. |

Yeah i'm sure they have already chosen and it really isn't up to us. However, I think i'm gonna go with Double or Die. Sounds kinda classic unlike the other two.
Nemesis was a resident evil game, and thats all it makes me think of (well that and when Brick-Top is explaining himself to those black guys in Snatch) The Deadlock Cipher seems too national treasure/da vinci code for me. I hope they aren't taking that direction, so i must vote against it on principle. These books are great though. I think Double or Die is the only title that lives up to the rest of the series. |

I don't like the idea of having the title be decided by the fans for two reasons: 1) It more or less signifies that Ian Fleming Publications can't make up their minds. Ah, come on. I doubt very much they're doing this because they can't make up their minds. I think this is just a fun and creative marketing stunt. I'm gonna have to disagree. We know that they've taken much more time in coming up with a title. I remember a Higson comment a while back about them not sure what to call it. This just confirms they couldn't decide. Doesn't mean this isn't a fun and "creative" marketing stunt too. Exhibit A (paragraph 4, specifically) I kinda also agree with Tiin007 on the second part too. I guess it isn't that big of a deal, but I truly dislike when artists (writers or whatever) listen to the fans. It usually doesn't bode well in the end and it makes me sick to my stomach when I read what some/most fans want. Not to say my opinions and wants are greater than anyone else's, rather I expect the majority to dislike what I want. The point is, if they listened to their fans would we be getting a Casino Royale film like what we're getting? No. Would we have gotten Young Bond? Hell no. It is a double edge sword. Sometimes they do great things, sometimes not so good, but at least when it fails it doesn't leave that sour taste - if it fails, at least it was their fault, not ours. Without going into specific detail.... ![]() ![]() |

No. I recall a whole lot of very public wishing going on around here, for exactly what we're apparently getting. Off topic.... But I have wondered whether the internet, message boards like this one, had any hand in giving EON the guts to try something different - seeing that there was appetite amongst the fans for something different from DAD. Just a thought. On topic, I'm sure IFP will go with the title the public will choose. Why shouldn't they? They've picked three possible titles. And, at the end of the day, it's only the blooming title. ![]() ![]() |

No. I recall a whole lot of very public wishing going on around here, for exactly what we're apparently getting. A reboot? I don't think so. A harder edge and serious Bond? Well, yeah, but the fans can't honestly take credit for that. It was EON who made the decision to go with Casino Royale, reboot the series, dump Brosnan, and hire Daniel Craig. I don't recall the fans being involved in any of that. 3 out of 4 that I listed has caused some controversy (though it has simmered a lot since first being announced). ![]() ![]() |
